| LTC Shawn A. Stroud |
LTC Shawn Stroud was born in Minot, ND and enlisted in the Army in November 1983 as an Arabic-Iraqi Interrogator.
After serving five years on active duty, he earned an ROTC Scholarship from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with coaching concentrations in basketball and football and was commissioned a Distinguished Military Graduate in August 1991 as a Military Intelligence Officer.
Since becoming an officer he has served in a wide variety of tactical assignments including: platoon leader, company commander, intelligence officer, instructor, public affairs officer, and director for strategic communication.
LTC Stroud currently serves as the Professor of Military Science at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.
| MAJ Scott Ewen |
Major Scott Ewen has 18 years of combined enlisted and commissioned service within the Iowa Army National Guard, Army Reserve and Active components. He is an ROTC military graduate of University of Northern Iowa.
He has deployed to Iraq, Kuwait, JRTC and NTC; and has participated in several Warfighter exercises in Texas, Hawaii and Korea. He served in the Infantry as a Arctic Light, Mechanized, Air Assault and Light Infantry Platoon Leader
His current position is the Assistant Professor of Military Science (APMS) at North Dakota State University.
| LTC Stanley Carignan |
LTC Stanley A. Carignan was born in Escanaba, Michigan on August 2, 1962. He enlisted in the Navy in 1981 completing basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and Religious Program Specialist “A” School in Biloxi, MS before reporting to the USS Josephus Daniels (CG 27) in Norfolk, VA.
LTC Carignan earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Liberal Studies at Loyola University in 1987 Magna cum Laude and was named Honor Graduate in Humanities.
Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, Major Carignan enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard and reported directly to the Minnesota Military Academy to attend Officer Candidate School. He was commissioned a 2LT on 22 July 1990 and served in numerous positions to include Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, BN S1, as well as Company Commander of Charlie Company, 2-135 (M) and HHC.
In June of 2003 CPT Carignan deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In October 2004 Major Carignan deployed to Tikrit, Iraq as the G5 Planner in the 42nd I.D. Plans Cell for 9 months. In December 2005 Major Carignan deployed to Baghdad Iraq as the Multi-National Corps Iraq Liaison Officer to the U.S. Agency for International Development for a period of one year.
He is currently employed with Communication Technologies as a Senior Military Science Instructor at North Dakota State University.
| MAJ Ronald Joyce |

Major Ron Joyce Enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard Feb 1985. In April of 85 then Private First Class Joyce attended Basic Training Orientation and was selected as a Buddy Platoon Guide with 67 soldiers being sent to basic training to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Finished Basic and AIT summer and fall of 1985 in logistics. As a college student, played division two football and attended national championship football playoffs. Tri-Captain senior year, played defense. Declined offers to sign with and play for different NFL teams. 1989 graduated from Officer Candidate School and commissioned in 1990. Held positions of Infantry Platoon Leader, 2nd Bn 136th (M) IN HHC XO, 2nd BN 136th IN Co C, XO, 2nd BN 136th In Co C CO, Sr. Tactical Officer, MN OCS, 2nd BN 136th IN battalion Motor Officer, 2nd BN 136th IN S-3 Air, 34 IN Div, 1st IN BDE S-3 asst, 84th Troop Command S-3 asst, 84th Troop Command S-2, currently 34th IN Div IO. As of Sept 2000, contractor for the Department of Defense through MPRI, and Comtechnologies, for Army ROTC. Deployed 18 month to Afghanistan Feb 06 to July 07, Embedded Tactical Trainer 207th Corp. 207th Corp 3rd IN BN XO, S-3, Weapons Company and 1st Company mentor. 207th Corp 5th BN CSS Corp Mentor. 2000 to 2002 Military Science freshmen instructor. 2002 and currently Recruiting Operations Officer or Enrollment Officer. Have participated in many different training opportunities with the Minnesota Army National Guard. War fighter Ft. Leavenworth, multiple Simnets FT. Knox, FT. Hood, 1996 CMTC Hoenfels Germany during rotations for Bosnia. Achieved numerous military and civilian awards. Currently working on ILE and civilian education.
| 1LT Ryan Schulz |
First Lieutenant Ryan Andrew Schulz was born April 24th 1984 in Bismarck, North Dakota. He attended Bismarck High School in Bismarck, ND graduating in May of 2002, upon completion he joined the North Dakota National Guard and attended Basic Training and AIT in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Lieutenant Schulz then attended North Dakota State University where he studied Physical Education and minored in Coaching. While attending he completed ROTC training through North Dakota State University, graduating and receiving his commission on May 9h 2008. 1st Lieutenant Schulz serves in the Army National Guard through which he attended the Engineer Officer Basic Course in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
First Lieutenant Ryan Schulz is currently the Detachment Commander for the 188th Vertical Engineer Company, and an Officer Recruiter for the State and the Officer Strength Manager at North Dakota State University for the North Dakota Army National Guard.
Lieutenant Schulz’s previous assignment was serving as an enlisted member of the 957th Multi Role Bridge Company out of Bismarck, ND with the North Dakota Army National Guard.
| MSG Chad M. Gooding |
MSG Chad Michael Gooding was born in Fort Bragg, MSG Gooding joined the Army Reserves in May of 1989 on the split option. He departed to Fort Jackson, SC, for Basic Training and then onto Fort Sam Houston, TX, for AIT as a 91A (Combat Medic) the following year.
MSG Gooding made the transition to the Active Army on 8 August 1992. His first assignment was Fort Carson, CO, in the 3/29 Field Artillery Battalion Aid Station. He deployed to Kuwait in 1995, and then transferred to the 64th Forward Support Battalion as the Evacuation NCO.
In 2007 he was assigned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and the 101st Airborne, 3/187 Infantry. While serving as the Platoon Sergeant of the Medical Platoon consisting of 35 medics, he deployed to Iraq in 2007 for a 14 month tour. He currently serves as Senior Military Science Instructor at North Dakota State University in the ROTC Department.
| SFC Mark A. Dodge |
Sergeant First Class Mark A. Dodge was born May 11, 1971 and raised in Boston MA, and Raymond, NH. His military career began in August 1990 when he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and began his active Army career in August 1992 as an Infantryman. Over the past 17 years SFC Dodge has served in every Infantry duty position from Rifleman to Platoon Sergeant. He is currently assigned as the Military Science Instructor at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. SFC Dodge is married to the former Ms. Kimberly Burchett of Columbus, OH. They have two daughters: Tiara and Ashley.
| Dale E. Pickar |
Mr Dale E. Pickar was born at Sebeka, Minnesota and raised on a farm with eleven brothers and sisters at Nevis, Minnesota and now he and his wife Karen makes their home in Park Rapids, Minnesota. He is married to the former Ms. Karen (Mellesmoen) Welch and they have ten adult children, Michael, Tammy, Lawrence, Theresa, Anne, Geraldine, James, Melinda, Michael and Terrence. He is a retired Senior Master Sergeant from the US Air Force and served tours of duty overseas in Spain,
Newfoundland, Shemya AK, Viet Nam and Thailand and several state side duty stations. He served as the North Dakota Sate University Supply Technician from December 1985 for both the Army and Air Force ROTC programs and since July 2005 as the Supply Technician for the Army ROTC program.
| Sharon L. James |
Sharon L. James was born in Linton, North Dakota, where she completed high school. She received an Associate Degree at Bismarck State College and Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education at the University of North Dakota.
Ms. James has been employed at the Department of Military Science at North Dakota State University since September 1980 where she has had a part in completing the commissioning paperwork for over 350 Second Lieutenants.
Prior to employment at NDSU, Ms. James was an instructor at Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota. She also taught adult education classes for several years in Moorhead, Minnesota and in Fargo. She was also previously employed by the telephone companies in Bismarck and Fargo, North Dakota.

Ms. Kris Errett was born September 22, 1957, and raised in Glasgow, MT. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. She worked in the Management Consulting industry in Seattle, WA, for seven years before returning to Montana, where she worked in the Construction industry. For the last ten years, she has lived in Fargo, ND, where she again worked in the Construction industry before joining the staff at North Dakota State University. She has been with the Department of Military Science since May, 2006.
Ms. Errett has a 14-year-old son, Joe, and a 12-year-old daughter, Beth. Away from work, she is involved with both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.| Shawn O'Donnell |
Mr Shawn O’Donnell was born in Fargo North Dakota in March of 1980 . He was raised in Dilworth and Moorhead Minnesota and now lives in Fargo, North Dakota. Shawn graduated from Moorhead high school in 1999 and continued his education at the Minnesota Community and Technical College in Moorhead Minnesota for three years.
In July of 2005 he was employed full time as a Storekeeper/Supply Technician and supports both the Departments of Military Science and Aerospace Studies. In addition he provides the IT technical expertise for computer and computer systems maintenance and serves as the Liaison for the Army ROTC with the North Dakota State University Information Technology Systems. Shawn is strongly involved in community services as a member of the Emergency Vehicle Assistance and Communications (EVAC) organization and volunteers much of his spare time supporting events such as Special Olympics, and the local police and sheriff’s departments in traffic control, crowd control, in support of major events or disasters. Shawn is also a leading member in a local Search and Rescue Group and has frequently participated in many real search and rescue efforts.
